I laughed, I cried, I absolutely loved How I Planned Your Wedding: The All-True Story of a Mother and Daughter Surviving the Happiest Day of Their Lives. Now, I must warn you, this book is for a specific audience, and I happen to fit the profile. My daughter is 23 and I’m....older...and she’s getting married next year. We are having a great time planning her wedding, and I could relate to almost every situation in this book.
I got choked up on page ix, that’s right, it was during the PROLOGUE. Well, this is what got me, “But when it comes to real-world matters, there’s a deeper reason for wanting your child to spend the rest of her days with the love of her life. It’s the one secret you can’t tell her. She has to find out for herself. A lasting love is the deepest of life’s joys.” See what I mean, this just GOT me.
The book is divided into chapters that cover each part of wedding planning, and they are divided in to the thoughts of Elizabeth, the bride, and Susan, the mom. Most of the book I was laughing, but when, at the end, they discussed the actual ceremony, I felt those tears again. I figure I need to cry a lot now, so I can keep it together on the actual wedding day, so that was OK with me.
I wrote in this book. I NEVER do that, but my daughter is going to read this next (and my sister-in-law and my niece) and I wanted to mark the parts that were meaningful to me. (Usually because they reminded me of my daughter or myself.)
SusanWiggs is a romance novel author, but I usually thought Elizabeth had the funnier stories. I think my daughter is a little like Elizabeth, and I’m a little like Susan, but I hope not too much (she was a little demanding, and I’m trying not to be that way.) I do want to look up her romance novels, though.
If you’re planning a wedding or recently pulled off that perfect day, you would enjoy this book. If your mom was a part of this event, give her a copy – she’ll love it too. My daughter gave this to me for my birthday –a perfect gift!

Oh I am so glad to see you enjoyed this one because I think it looked great and yes, I want to read it and make my mom read it too!
ReplyDeleteMy little sister got married last summer but I'm sure she would love this to read this one and reflect back on the memories of planning the wedding with our mother. I love that you got chocked up during the prologue I'll have to tell Lindsey to make sure not to skip it!
