Book Review: The Christmas Wedding, by James Patterson and Richard DiLallo

I was in the mood for a Christmas story, and The Christmas Wedding fit the bill. I don't read much  sappy James Patterson, but I do like his Alex Cross novels and some of his other novels. Sometimes you just want a happy, feel-good story for the holidays.

The premise is kind of absurd -- 54-year-old Gaby is getting married on Christmas day, and she is requiring all of her four children to be there. The mystery is that three men have asked Gaby to marry them, and she's not saying which one is the groom. Not until she walks up the aisle at the wedding.

The story is really one of family. The four children are different, and each one has successes and problems. There are also four grandchildren, and we learn about all of these characters as we go along.

The three potential grooms are all "perfect" in there own way. There is no clear choice, and I couldn't even guess which one she would marry. By that time, I didn't really care. I didn't think that part of the book was important. These three men, as well as Stacey Lee, are Gaby's best friends and they all work together, and plan together, and no one's feelings ever get hurt. (Really???)

This one warms your heart and makes you thankful for your family and friends. It's a great holiday story, if you can suspend your disbelief at how perfect everything is.

There's nothing in this book that would prevent me from recommending it to teens who are interested. The cover is beautiful, but the bride in the book is 54 years old, and doesn't wear a white dress.
