Follow Friday -- The Same Old Story...

Happy Friday! Here's the question of the week:

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

There are really only a few stories. Really. It's all in the way it's told and embellished. The setting, characters, and details that make us love the book. So, no, I don't mind books with similar ideas. A good author will always be creative -- even with a story that's been told a thousand times.

Wow. That's a pretty short answer, but I guess I really don't have much else to say! Except:  Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison for hosting!  And, thanks to YOU for stopping by. Hope you come back again soon.

Also -- you may want to check out my GIVEAWAY. It's a copy of Nutcracker -- a great Christmas book, and it's illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Don't miss it!

  1. Same for me - I don't mind as long as each book has a unique voice.

  2. Yep, I agree. It's up to the author to make it good.

  3. Very true Annette. There are only a few stories to tell. The attention to details is what makes each one special. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. I think having similar overarching stories (one of the archetype stories) isn't a problem, but sometimes books are too similar to other recent books.
