Book Review: Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben

Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben book cover and review
Coben can really spin a startling thriller and he has done it again with Fool Me Once.

Maya, a former military pilot has just lost her husband as the story opens. They were in a park and he was shot by two thugs in ski masks. Maya ran to save herself. Maya has a two-year-old daughter. Two years ago her sister was also murdered, and Maya is trying to be a mother to her sister's two kids also.

Maya sees a strange thing when checking her nanny-cam. She sees her supposedly dead husband come and visit her daughter. This begins Maya's quest to find out what really happened to her husband. Along the way she'll find out a lot about her husband's family, her sister's death, and other seemingly unrelated things.

This is Harlan Coben, so it's all very twisted. I dare anyone to say they figured out what happened before the end of Fool Me Once. Totally unexpected and not at all a pleasant ending, however the journey is worth it. I literally couldn't put this one down and thought about it constantly if I wasn't able to be reading.

I always recommend Coben to my reluctant readers who enjoy a good thriller, because his books are page-turners and Fool Me Once is no exception. If you've never tried this author, I think Tell No One, my first taste of this author, will always be my favorite, but Fool Me Once is definitely a close second.

  1. Great review! Tell No One is by far my favorite book by him as well. Unfortunately, I don't always keep up with him since he churns out so many books, but I'll definitely have to look for this one. Thanks so much for sharing!
