While I didn’t think Forever was the best book of the Wolves of Mercy Falls series, I did enjoy it.
First, the characters. There aren’t any new characters and no real huge changes in the condition of any of our beloved friends from Linger (the second book) with the exception of Olivia. Isobel is definitely my favorite. I love her attitude, and she’s so witty that I laughed out loud several times at her observations and analogies. I still found Cole confusing, but he is the character that changed the most in this third and final installment. It was interesting to see him work through his past, and I admire his determination to accomplish his “task.” (You have to read it to find out what he’s up to.)
I didn’t feel that Grace and Sam changed or that their relationship grew very much. Don’t get me wrong, Stiefvater writes a beautiful love story like no other. The passion was believable and swoon-worthy. I was definitely rooting for this couple to the very end, I just felt like the first half of the book didn’t accomplish very much as far as plot or character development. It seemed just like more of Linger.
The ending found me gripping onto my seat and frantically turning the pages. I loved the ending—it was tense, exciting, sad, and appropriately vague, but hopeful.
You really can’t read this book without reading the first two, Shiver and Linger. There’s way too much back story in those that is required to appreciate the final book (besides, like I said, those books are better than this one.) Teens will continue to love this series, just like they loved the first two books. I have no problem getting these book to leave my library shelves!

Hey, thanks for pointing me here. It seems we are very similar in thoughts, I guess it just irked me a little more. And it was because this was the end to the series. The end. It should have blown my socks off and had me crying hysterically because it was all over.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this book could have just been combined with Linger as much as it accomplished and because of the abstract ending will there be a fourth book that pops up? She said this was it, but she also said there wasn't going to be an ARCs of FOREVER and it seems they printed thousands of these ARCs they way they were handing them out. I just felt that Stiefvater was kind of done with Sam and Grace, and focused more on Cole and then hurried up and ended things, leaving it open for interpretation. *sigh*
I highly recommend this book as well as the other books in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series. They took me to a place I hated to leave by the end of this last book. Thank you Maggie Stiefvater for a great escape!
