Three Black Swans has an unusual and unbelievable premise. But I still enjoyed reading it very much.
I don’t really think the way this revelation was set up is all that believable. Two cousins suddenly realize, “Hey, we look so much alike, we must be twins!” I know Cooney does a lot of explaining about how this happened – one twin was much smaller, and it took a while for them to actually look alike, etc. but it was still hard for me to buy into. Plus, Missy hears a story on the radio, and becomes convinced all of a sudden that this is the case. And then the whole part about revealing this on the school news program, and then putting it on YouTube was just too much for me.
But.....it was an entertaining story. To see how it all ends up, finding out there’s even more to the story, and trying to figure out who the biological parents are was an enjoyable journey, once I accepted the basic premise. Cooney is an excellent story-teller, and her characters are authentic teens, and I could relate to their reactions for the most part. There really aren’t a lot of side characters – the girls and their parents are the only ones, and that works well also.
It’s a quick read, and catches your attention very quickly, so this might be a good choice for more reluctant readers. This would definitely be considered a girl book, though.

You're right. This is too unrealistic! At least, it's enjoyable and a quick read - not a complete waste of time after all.
Hum. Usually I really enjoy Cooney's books 'cause they're usually great mysteries but it is possible to stretch the reader's belief too soon. Maybe next time!
