Feature & Follow Friday - Assigned Reading

Alison & Parajunkee's Feature & Follow Friday question is:

Q: Summer Reading. What was your favorite book that you were REQUIRED to read when you were in school?

I find it interesting that I this is headed "Summer Reading" because I was NEVER required to do reading over the summer for school. That was unheard of in my day...(I'm dating myself, I know.)

I loved The Outsiders. I know they read it in middle school now, but we read it in high school If you haven't read it, you should. It holds up well after all these years. (It was written in 1967.) And, S.E. Hinton is FEMALE. That was also a surprise...

Thanks so much for stopping by. I'll be looking forward to visiting you and seeing your answers. Have a great weekend!

  1. I didn't have any required in summer either. I've blocked/forgot high school reading but know this was not one of them.

  2. I only had one required reading in High School and it wasn't during the summer either. I read a lot of the books some consider required reading for fun! :)

  4. I didn't have required reading in the summer either. But, I did in high school. Sadly, I just read Cliff Notes are watched the movies to get me through my English classes. I wish I hadn't done that now. Hindsight is 20/20.

  6. I still haven't read the outsiders. I don't remember ever hearing about it until I came to Canada. One of these days I'll get around to reading, perhaps :)

  7. Even though I'm still in school, rarely do I have to read books in the summer. But I think maybe two years ago-ish we read the Outsiders and I was so surprised that S.E. Hinton was a woman too. I once got to watch the movie and was told S.E. Hinton was in it. I was still surprised to see her in the movie.

  10. Interesting! They didn't force you to read in the summer either back where I'm from.. sigh Not that I would have minded per say. I read because I couldn't help myself! :)

    1. Well, it doesn't have as much to do with WHERE I went to school, as to WHEN it was -- it was a loooong time ago....Of course I still read -- just not anything literary -- I was a romance junkie back then. No such thing as YA....
