TGIF - Unexpected Surprises!

I love this week's question!

Unexpected Books: Which books did you have reservations about reading, but ended up loving once you did?

First, I'm going to go way back. I never thought I would like the Harry Potter books. "I don't like fantasy." Yeah, right. I gobbled these up and that was the beginning of a huge change in my reading habits. There are still some fantasies that I don't care for, but more and more often, I like them. The Girl of Fire and Thorns is a more recent example of this. A girl with a jewel in her tummy? My eyes rolled when I read that. But I LOVED this book!

I really try not to be reserved about any books any more. I'm fortunate that I enjoy a WIDE variety of genres, so I've learned my lesson. Just try it. Not that I'm perfect. I still surprise myself once in a while.

Thanks Ginger. I really enjoyed this one and I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's responses. Thanks for visiting and enjoy your weekend! (My last one before school starts on Monday!!!!)

  1. At first I didn't want to read the Harry Potter series, because "everybody else did", I was ten and just a bit stubborn. My sister loved them and took me to the first movie and ever since I'm hooked!

    Great answer!

  2. I cross over a few genres but Glass Castle was the one that made me consider Memoirs.

  3. I loved the ones you mentioned - HP and Fire and Thorns. And same as Marce (the commenter above me) with Glass Castle - an amazing book, one which I loved despite not being much of a non-fiction reader.

    1. I'm picky about my non fiction too. But Glass Castle was one I really liked. Thanks for visiting.

  4. Good question this week. :) My sister still hasn't read Harry Potter (she's older than me, and says real wizards are like Gandalf ... she's missing out, of course)

  5. I also liked the Harry Potter books. I’m glad I dropped by from TGFI. I am your newest follower.
